Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions before booking? Here are some of the most common things people ask before renting a kayak with Chattanooga Kayak Company.
Do I need kayaking experience?
No. Our kayaks are stable and beginner friendly. They are designed to be comfortable for both first-time paddlers and experienced kayakers.
What is included with my rental?
Each rental includes a Bonafide RS117 fishing kayak, a paddle, and a life jacket. These kayaks are stable and work well for exploring the Tennessee River or fishing on Chickamauga Lake.
Where can I launch the kayak?
Most rentals take place at our recommended launch locations in the Chattanooga area, including Chester Frost Park, Harrison Bay State Park, and Shellmound Recreation Area. These locations offer easy water access and are great for kayaking and fishing.
Can I launch the kayak somewhere else?
Yes. If you transport the kayak yourself or arrange delivery, you may launch from other public access points as long as local rules allow it. Customers are responsible for choosing a legal launch location and returning the kayak on time.
Do you offer delivery?
Delivery may be available depending on location. If you would like a kayak delivered to a specific location, please contact us before booking to confirm availability.
Do I need to transport the kayak?
If you choose one of our recommended launch locations, the kayak will be ready there at the start of your rental. If you request delivery, you may transport the kayak to another launch location of your choice.
Can I fish from the kayak?
Yes. The Bonafide RS117 is designed for fishing and includes rod holders and a stable platform that works well for casting and moving around on the water.
What should I bring?
We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, appropriate clothing, and anything you want for your time on the water. It is also a good idea to secure phones and valuables in a dry bag.
Do I have to wear a life jacket?
Yes. Life jackets must be worn while using rental equipment. This is required for safety.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Weather conditions can change quickly on the water. If conditions are unsafe, we may reschedule your rental. Safety is always the top priority.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive a few minutes early so you have time to check in and receive a quick safety overview before launching.
Are there any park fees?
Some parks and launch areas may charge entrance or boat ramp fees. Chester Frost, Harrison Bay State Park, and Shellmound do not charge fees. Customers are responsible for any park fees required by the launch location they choose.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact us as soon as possible. Weather-related changes may be handled differently for safety reasons.
What happens if equipment is damaged or lost?
Customers are responsible for using rental equipment properly and returning it in the same condition it was received. Damage or loss due to misuse or negligence may result in repair or replacement charges according to the rental agreement.
How do I book a kayak?
Go to the Rentals page, select your date and time, and complete the booking online. The process only takes a minute.
Is there an age requirement?
Renters must be at least 18 years old to book a kayak rental. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
How many people fit in a kayak?
Our RS117 kayaks are single-person kayaks designed for one paddler.
How early should I book?
We recommend booking in advance, especially on weekends and during warmer months, as availability can fill up quickly.
What if I return the kayak late?
Late returns may result in additional charges. Please plan to return your kayak on time so the next renter can start their reservation as scheduled.
